Venice and its province

Getting married in Venice.

My studio is in Martellago, a few kilometres from the bridge into Venice: the city and its province are where I have worked for twenty years, from the calli of the historic centre to the villas of the countryside.

The historic centre

A city that does not need to be staged.

In the city I have photographed religious and civil weddings: the church of the Carmini, the island of San Giorgio, the Hotel Danieli, Rialto. One couple flew in from Frankfurt to marry here; another came from Japan for an elopement, just the two of them.

In Venice the day moves on foot and by boat, and the photographs keep the same pace: narrow calli, squares that open up all of a sudden, light bouncing off the water and reaching you from below. Knowing the city means knowing where that light will be at a given hour, and where there will be fewer people.

No posing and no scenes staged twice: Venice is beautiful enough as it is, and my work is to be inside the day and tell it as it happens.

The province

Villas, parks and countryside.

Outside the city, the province of Venice is made of Venetian villas and open countryside. On the Riviera del Brenta I have photographed at Villa Valmarana in Mira; around Mirano at Villa Rizzi Albarea in Pianiga, and in the Parco Belvedere of Mirano before the party at La Cicala restaurant.

Towards the east I have worked at Villa Marcello Loredan Franchin in Ceggia and at Villa O’Hara in Torre di Mosto, where at the end of a civil wedding every guest jumped into the pool, photographers included.

And there are weddings like no other, such as a country wedding on horseback in Lugo, in the Venetian countryside, with dancing late into the night. Every venue asks for a different way of moving; my way of looking stays the same.

Getting married in Venice, the questions.

Yes. I have photographed religious and civil weddings in the city, at the church of the Carmini, the island of San Giorgio, the Hotel Danieli and Rialto, as well as elopements of couples who came from abroad. My studio is in Martellago, a few kilometres from the bridge into Venice.

Which venues in the province of Venice has he already photographed?

Among others: Villa Valmarana in Mira, Villa Rizzi Albarea in Pianiga, the Parco Belvedere of Mirano, Villa Marcello Loredan Franchin in Ceggia and Villa O’Hara in Torre di Mosto, whose full gallery is in Stories.

Does he also photograph civil weddings and elopements in Venice?

Yes. A civil wedding or an elopement for two takes fewer hours, but the same attention. For couples who want to marry on their own, or almost, there is the Engagement & Elopement service: a few hours, in the city or wherever you prefer.
